Designer's Note
Located at the gateway to Jakarta, Soekarno–Hatta International Airport, a new %ARABICA has opened in the center of the domestic area of Terminal 3. The location is lively with travelers transferring from international flights to domestic routes, as well as those departing for destinations across Indonesia, making it a starting point for many different journeys.
Inspired by the idea of “home” as the place where every journey begins, the design takes its motif from traditional Indonesian houses. An open, house-shaped frame forms the space, while the kitchen counter faces the main flow of people, allowing baristas to be visible from anywhere around the store and welcoming guests.
Stool counters surround the store, enabling customers to sit facing outward and watch travelers pass by. Subtle airport-inspired details, including airplane window–like merchandise and bean bag displays and linear lighting extending outward reminiscent of runway lights, are gently incorporated.
We hope this %ARABICA becomes a place that sends people off on their journeys, like the entrance of a home.
